Adding a driver to a Mexico Insurance policy is easily done, but not necessary in all cases. Mexico Insurance policies are “permissive use” meaning that as long as the driver of the vehicle has permission of the registered owner to drive the vehicle, it not usually necessary.
However, there are some exceptions:
- If the registered owner is not with the traveling group, we recommend getting a notarized letter of permission from the registered owner before crossing the border. To mitigate any issues that might arise from having someone else’s car in Mexico.
- The driver of the vehicle must have the same “risk profile.” Meaning that as long as all listed drivers of the vehicle are over the age of 21, and you said as much when you purchased the policy, then the non-listed driver must be over 21.
- All drivers must have a non-Mexican driver’s license.
Adding a driver is easy, but we do need the request in writing. Complete the process using our ADD ADDITIONAL DRIVER FORM
